Since the start of the pandemic, breakfast buffet has gradually become a thing of the past with many hotels discontinuing their buffet services and starting to offer à la carte as well as grab-and-go options. In retrospect, all the bellyaching about how we wanted to keep our weight in check, but deep down we know we couldn’t be bothered and enjoyed it tremendously. If you can relate, read on what we miss most about our favourite self-served travel perks below.
1. THE SIGHT AND SMELL OF A BUSY BUFFET RESTAURANT IN THE MORNING.
The loud and lively chatter, the queue at the buffet line, the scent of aromatic coffee and freshly baked pastries—we miss how they made our mouths water and stomachs growl even before we set foot in the restaurant.
2. ORDERING OUR FAVOURITE EGGS FROM THE OMELETTE STATION.
Where “Good morning! How do you want your eggs?” never failed to throw us off guard with possibly the first dilemma of the day. Sunny side up, over easy, soft scrambled, stuffed omelette—we just couldn’t decide as swift as we wanted it to be in our tummy. Nonetheless, we wouldn’t skip the omelette station as no breakfast is ever complete without our favourite eggs.
3. TRYING OUT ALL SORTS OF TOPPINGS AT THE PANCAKE & WAFFLE STATION.
A variety of fruit preserves definitely spark joy. Topped with some berries, a sprinkle of fun toppings or a drizzle of syrup, it’s like having a rainbow of delight on a good, fluffy pancake and have them for brunch.
4. GETTING A CUP OF (ALMOST EFFORTLESS) FRESHLY BREWED COFFEE.
Don’t you miss an aromatic and intense cup to perk you up? Not every day we get a cup of barista-worthy coffee. So when the opportunity presents itself (in the form of an automatic espresso machine), we seize it by having that perfect cup of cappuccino or latte that we hardly make at home.
5. STUFFING OURSELVES WITH A VARIETY OF ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT.
Who doesn’t love varieties? We might not devour all of them, but it’s always good to know that we have more than enough options on the buffet line to stuff ourselves full and happy. We’re also missing some of the regional specialties served in hotels too. Best of all, no hidden charges and absolutely bang for the buck.
6. WHERE NO ONE WILL JUDGE US FOR HAVING DESSERTS IN THE MORNING.
Ah… the simple pleasure of digging into our favourite petit fours after a feast. Sampling bite-sized makes it feel less guilty too. After all, who can resist adorable mini desserts? They’re like a lovely treat from the hotel. So yeah, totally justified.
7. ENJOYING OUR FAVOURITE FOODS, ONE PLATE AT A TIME.
Whether you enjoy taking a spoonful of everything or prefer going through the buffet lines first, piling a plate with our favourite foods always feels so satisfying and comforting. Whatever your heart desires, as much as your belly space allows.
